How to Correctly Clean Your Interactive Display

If you’ve made the investment into an interactive display or panel, you know its value to your workspace. For that reason, how to clean your interactive display is of the highest importance. If you do it right, your panel can last you through many more years to come.

To protect what may be your biggest workspace investment, here is a step-by-step guide on how to properly clean and care for your interactive panel or display.

1. First, turn off the display.

By turning off your panel before attempting to clean it, two things happen: first, you protect the electrical connections from being damaged while in a vulnerable “on” state, but by turning the panel off you are more able to see any streaks or marks on the panel itself.

2. Use the right cleaning materials.

Above all else, it is important that you use the right materials when cleaning and maintaining your interactive panel. For day-to-day use, a simple swipe with a dry microfiber cloth can keep it free of dust and fingerprints, but if you’re needing more of a deep clean, keep the following in mind:

  • For maintaining a clean and clear screen on your Clear Touch panel, we recommend using a microfiber cloth with Windex spray or Windex electronics wipes.
  • When using Windex spray, NEVER spray the screen directly. Always spray the microfiber cloth with Windex then proceed to clean the panels screen. Spraying the panels screen directly with Windex could very easily result in damage to the panel itself, the liquid may run down the screen into the panel causing hardware failures. Make sure to also use the microfiber to clean around the inside edge of the bezel, to maintain a clean and clear path for the infrared beams to optimize the use of touch and provide a better user experience.
  • We recommend when cleaning and maintaining your PC modules that you use compressed air to blow out dust and other particles that may be built up over time due to regular use of the panel. Dust and debris can clog ventilation and negatively affect cooling, leading to decreased performance and lifespan of the PC hardware.
  • Do not mix cleaners.
  • Do not use harsh or corrosive cleaning products that damage paint or plastics.
  • Isopropyl alcohol is safe to use on glass and metal surfaces, but be sure to follow the above guidelines and avoid spraying or pouring alcohol onto the display itself.
  • Traditional household cleaning products (Clorox wipes, Lysol, disinfectant sprays, and mild surface cleaners) are safe to use with our panels, as long they are NOT sprayed directly onto the panel.

3. Spray your cloth; not the board.

If using any sort of cleaner or wet product to clean your board, always spray it directly onto a soft cloth (like microfiber or glass cleaning cloth), and keep it only damp—not soaked. This will prevent moisture from seeping into the electronic workings of your interactive panel through framing gaps or other cracks—something which could create numerous technical issues down the road.  Take care to avoid heavy moisture buildup around the IR touch frame, ventilation, or panel gaps.

4. Let it dry completely.

Make sure you allow it to dry completely before turning everything back on. If necessary, use a clean and dry microfiber cloth in order to dry excess moisture off of the panel.

5. Remove ink or marks immediately.

Should someone (gasp!) use ink or mark on your interactive smart panel, please take the steps above to clean it immediately—the longer ink stays on a surface the more permanent it becomes.

While this may seem a rather intensive cleaning process for an interactive panel, keep in mind that this exercise can be integrated as one part of keeping a clean and healthy space. In reality, you shouldn’t have to do more than give it a brief going-over with a dry cloth as a daily practice, although workspaces taking precautions against COVID-19 need to disinfect regularly. However, if you do maintain your interactive panel according to these instructions, the most basic maintenance should allow it to last for years to come.
